Hidden Golf Holiday Locations
Avid golfers often plan their golf vacations months in advance. The perfect golf resort or golf course is the priority during golf getaways. Unfortunately, as with everything in life, any number of things can put a damper on a golf break, including an overabundance of golfers (and sometimes non-golfers) on the course.
Hidden golf resorts and courses, however, provide an excellent solution to this problem. The majority of these types of golf courses are tucked away in unusual locales, which means that not many golfers know of them. This ensures that you will enjoy your weekend, without stepping on toes, so to speak.
Below are some of the best and in some cases most unique, hidden golf holiday locations.
Furnace Creek Resort
Death Valley, California
A place named Death Valley may not be the type of place that many people would picture a golf course. But, here it is.
Furnace Creek Resort, located in Death Valley National Park in California, has a full 18-hole course, as well as beautiful scenery and diverse wildlife. In fact, some golfers have stated that it`s not unusual to find a stray coyote on the course here and there.
Because of its location, Furnace Creek Golf Course is considered to be the lowest golf course on Earth. It sits at 214 feet below sea level. Keen golfers swear that the location of the course also makes the golf balls react differently, ultimately making the course a little more difficult than traditional courses. According to Golf Digest, this is one of the toughest golf courses in America.
La Paz Golf Club
La Paz, Bolivia
If the lowest golf course on Earth doesn`t get your clubs in a twist, how about the highest golf course on Earth?
La Paz Golf Club is located in the fascinating South American country of Bolivia and sits in the mountains, 10,650 feet above sea level. Since the air is somewhat lighter here, golfers may notice that their balls go farther than on other courses.
Along with the excellent course, La Paz also boasts magnificent scenery. Nearly every hole offers an unobstructed view of sandstone cliffs or snow-capped mountains.
Legend Golf and Safari Resort
Limpopo, South Africa
If you`re the type who`s not afraid of lions and tigers and bears (oh my), try out the Legend Golf and Safari Resort! This award winning resort is located in the middle of a safari conservatory. In between games, you can choose to get up close and personal with the animals during a guided safari tour.
Besides the normal 18 holes, this course boasts something extra, in the form of an extra hole. The 19th hole at this golf course is called the `Extreme 19th` and rightfully so. If you`re looking for the most secluded and hidden golf course hole in the world on your activity weekends, this might be as close as you`re going to get. The tee off for this hole can only be reached via helicopter and the green is hundreds of feet below.
